Thompson Sampling for Multinomial Logit Bandits: Learning in Monopolistic and Competitive Markets

Advisor: Prof. Denis Sauré

Research Experience

Dec 2024 — Present

Graduate Researcher

Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Chile

Research with Profs. Denis Sauré, Charles Thraves, and Fernando Ordóñez. Implemented identifying-exploration policies and exponential-cone programs for network interdiction; built posterior-sampling, Gibbs, and mean-field solvers for MNL bandits; and developed EM, Metropolis–Hastings, and sequential Monte Carlo methods for inventory-based choice estimation.

Mar 2025 — Jul 2025

Research Assistant

Complex Engineering Systems Institute (ISCI)

Developed a compartmental SEIR model to support the Chilean Ministry of Health's winter campaign and assessed alternative epidemiological models for predicting the impact of public-health interventions, under the supervision of Prof. Denis Sauré.

Dec 2023 — Aug 2024

Research Assistant

Northwestern University

Implemented a stochastic optimization model and its solution methods for Tax Evasion, Heterogeneous Rates of Return, and Wealth Inequality, a Ph.D. dissertation in Economics by José Alvarado Onell.

Teaching Experience

Mar 2023 — Dec 2025

Teaching Assistant

University of Chile

Led weekly problem-solving sessions across doctoral, master's, and undergraduate courses; contributed to grading and assessment design; and monitored student progress. Authored course notes now used in the undergraduate Probability course.

Graduate CoursesPh.D. in Engineering Systems · M.Sc. in Operations Management: IN77O Models and Algorithms for Optimization; IN79O Stochastic Models in Engineering Systems.

Undergraduate CoursesIndustrial Engineering: IN3272 Decision-Making under Uncertainty; IN3141 Probability; IN3171 Modeling and Optimization; IN2201 Economics; CC1000 Computational Tools.

Applied Research and Industry

Jun 2026 — Present

Applied Data Scientist

LATAM Airlines

Works on an external consulting project with academic researchers to optimize aircraft-component removal campaigns. Analyzes failure data and estimates how operational covariates affect component lifetime, replacing uniform maintenance policies with segmented, data-driven strategies.

Dec 2025 — Present

Data Scientist

Complex Engineering Systems Institute (ISCI)

Develops quantitative models and simulations for population-level policy evaluation, combining counterfactual methods, cost analysis, probabilistic modeling, and large-scale registry data. This work supports the nirsevimab and congenital-cytomegalovirus studies listed in Research.

Dec 2024 — Feb 2025

Data Scientist

LocalShop

Built data pipelines and analytical models to identify patterns supporting strategic decisions.

Jan 2024 — Dec 2024

Data Analyst

Azul Azul S.A.

Improved data-generation and visualization processes for the men's first team, youth academy, and women's team.
